It is difficult for us to understand why a sister dies of cancer leaving three young children without a mother, why a grandmother suffers from Alzheimer’s, why a best friend’s marriage is falling apart. Those of us who have grown up in the Reformed tradition have memorized the catechism, have memorized Bible verses, have the “head knowledge” as to why these things happen—the sovereignty of God. We know that we can’t know the mind of God. But when bad things happen to us, it just seems like those answers don’t make sense anymore.
Join us on Thursday, April 2 at 7:30 pm when Sharon Schreur will lead the study "When Bad Things Happen." We'll use Scripture to learn about 1) Why bad things happen--to everyone, but especially to Chrstians, 2) How we can understand the sufferings in our own lives, and 3) How we can talk to others about the sufferings present in their lives.

Jules,
ReplyDeleteThe blog looks great. What a neat idea to set this up for those in your study, and for those of us who cannot make it to your study! I would recommend referencing the book "When God Weeps" by Joni Ereakson Tada for your study on suffering. I haven't read it yet, but it's been recommended to me and I plan to delve into it soon....
Blessings,
Mary
